Hey everyone! I am considering doing weekly lectures on Fridays. What do you guys think? I think it will be good to generate activity and form a nice community. Also, I am thinking to stream them to youtube so others can watch live even if they cannot attend themselves.
Some ideas for the topics are...
Game Reviews Q&A Joseki Common Mistakes L&D
What do you guys think about this idea? Any lecture types that you would like to see? Do you think you will attend?
Once I get into the Fall Quarter again (sept22-dec5), my classes are Mon-Fri, but I'll have breaks before, in, and after classes. Lets see... my last class on Fridays end just before 3pm GMT-7, so you know.
I can try making some videos for you, too- putting them on my youtube account, though it'd also take time to get to, and I'd want to know what to do it on.
Personally, I don't like the idea of L&D lectures, just because it can be such a hit or miss topic. You either read through the problems and learn because they are the right difficulty for you, wait for the answer because it's to hard and you can't read it, or read through it really quickly because it's to easy. I think all the other topics are fine ideas though.
I do agree with Moboy for the most part, however, I watched a life and death video Catalin did and he just went over killing the L shaped group and he went over basic ideas that I didn't know before like the 2-1/1-2 points are miai, try to reduce from the outside before playing inside UNLESS playing inside is the only move to kill, play the move your opponent wants to play etc etc. So a video going over basic life and death in the corner and a few different shapes (L group, J Group, Carpenter Square...) would be very informative and helpful. Just knowing simple principles has made my life and death skill much much better.
The type of videos I know I personally like to watch the most are game reviews or the person playing a game and talking through their thinking. After that I like common mistakes and Middlegame fighting/Tesuji.
I have no idea if you're still doing lectures. But if you ever get around to it, a lecture about using thickness might be nice. Every time I see something on the subject, the walls are immaculate and huge. But in real games it's of course not that simple.

wampir: any idea how to switch own play style, for example from mine passive to more active/aggressive? any advice would be nice :-)

masterjdj: Im a very aggressive player and I would say focus more on playing solid moves. Many times I find myself losing games for being over aggressive. I think that if you want to move past the passive mindset trying playing out of your comfort zone.
